"IF Gnistan were founded in 1924 and boast one of the best youth development programmes currently operating in Finland. The club's Head of Youth Development, Sipi Ulvas, is heavily committed to introducing talented young individuals into the Finnish game and is hopeful that Sheffield Wednesday will in turn reap the benefits."

Owls look to Finland in hunt for new Rocky
Published Date: 24 February 2009
By Paul Thompson
WEDNESDAY have added Finland to the list of countries that come under their youth scouting net.
The Owls hope to spot other Scandinavian prospects who can follow in the footsteps of Rocky Lekaj and have just given a trial to three players from a Finnish club.
Wednesday already have links with clubs in countries such as Norway - from where Lekaj and his brother, Leon, came - Australia, Canada and South America.
Finnish outfit IF Gnistan noted the success of the Hillsborough youth policy and were as keen as Wednesday to forge a partnership.
It led to a visit to Sheffield by Gnistan official Sipi Ulvas and the trial for the three un-named players - one of whom shows promise and is being invited back next season.
The trio trained with the Owls youngsters last week and watched Saturday's match against Crystal Palace.
Owls academy manager Sean McAuley explained: "Gnistan have a really good youth programme and we are trying to develop a partnership with them. The guy who is the head of their youth development, Sipi UIvas, came to our club on a study visit as part of his coaching qualifications.
"I kept in touch with him; he wanted to know if we could expand the partnership, and he liked what he saw at our club."
Gnistan have been impressed by the large number of players who have come through the Owls' youth set-up and who have made it either into the first team or to the fringes of it.
Last month there were 10 home-grown players in a match 16.
Last Saturday's comeback star Sean McAllister came through the academy, as did league regulars Richard Wood, Mark Beevers and Tommy Spurr, and the subs for the 2-0 win against Crystal Palace included former youth-team players Richard O'Donnell and Luke Boden.
The club's link with Australia includes former Owls midfielder Adem Poric, whose football academy there has an official partnership with the Owls; he and some players paid a recent visit to Hillsborough.
Ex-Wednesday full-back Juan Cobian is helping the club to establish links with his home country, Argentina.
Three Wednesday players are among the top five in the voting for the PFA Fans' Player of the Month award for February: Lee Grant, who was the January winner, plus Michael Gray and Marcus Tudgay.

The Owls of Åggelby?
Jeps
Pöllölän pöllot. Siinä vasta kipinää...
Itse asiassa owl voidaan katsoa synonyymiksi myös huuhkajalle. Tästä löytyykin jo synergiaa. Bubin soisi pistäytyvän myös Fair Payllä.
